MOBILITY RESEARCH
How we move fundamentally affects how we (should) build.
PROTOinc is a full service architecture and planning firm, specializing in the research and development of the future effects of mobility on the built environment. Our mission is to shape tomorrow’s spaces to seamlessly accommodate the ever-evolving landscape of mobility in all its forms. Historically, advances in transportation technology have had unintended, widespread effects on the built enviroment. We seek a more symbiotic evolution for the rapid transformations currently underway: architecture that not only adapts to but also helps to shape the future of mobility.
We believe in designing for a future where transportation, technology, and sustainability converge to create a harmonious built environment that is not only functional but also future-proof and adaptable. Architecture can play a vital role in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by electrification, micromobility, autonomous vehicles, and smart cities. At the heart of our work is a vision for hybrid spaces, where emerging forms of mobility and novel building uses seamlessly coexist and influence each other. Small scale experiments, with big scale implications. Let’s move!
Seismic shifts in mobility trigger seismic shifts in the built environment. How we move is one of the defining features of the American landscape, which provides some really interesting architectural challenges and opportunities. Diverse portfolio with one of our areas of specialty being architecture of mobility, more specifically the changing role of the automobile to our built environment. We have a deep familiarity with the automotive industry (having completed over 50 projects) as it’s undergoing a critical evolutionary period, with the Bay Area being one of the epicenters of this transformation.
